Tachikawa

Tachikawa Station is an important railway station in Tachikawa City in the western part of Tokyo. The JR Chuo Line passes through the station, while Ome Line and Nambu Line terminate here.

Tachikawa Minami Station and Tachikawa Kita Station are located on either side of Tachikawa station and are connected to it by decks.

The area surrounding Tachikawa Station is a busy commercial area with several large department stores, restaurants, bars, and cinemas located here. Among the large department stores here are Lumine (which occupies the upper floors of the station), Isetan , and Takashimaya . The south side of the station is what the locals call “mini-Kabukicho” (after the famous red-light district of Shinjuku) because of the many cabarets and love hotels located here. A bicycle race-track is also in the vicinity, where spectators place wagers on results of bicycle racing, much like in horse-racing.
