Kasai Rinkai Koen
Kasai Rinkai Koen Station is a train station located on the JR Keiyo and JR Musashino lines in the Rinkai area of Edogawa Ward of Tokyo. The station is mainly known as the station for Kinsai Rinkai Park, one of the largest and most popular parks of Tokyo. The park is located right next to the station.
Kasai Rinkai Park
Kasai Rinkai Park is the largest park in central Tokyo. Located on the waterfront just across Edogawa River from Disney Resort, the park is an ideal place for a refreshing stroll or a picnic.
Kasai Rinkai Park, built on reclaimed land, was opened in 1989. It sprawls over 795,000 m² that includes gardens, lawns, walking trails, and beaches. A bird sanctuary, an observation tower, a large Ferris wheel, and an aquarium are the other attractions in the park.
Bird Sanctuary: The bird sanctuary covers nearly a third of the park’s area. It is open to the public and all bird lovers are free to roam and photograph the birds. Only the marsh areas are restricted. There is also a Center where visitors can read and learn about the birds. The Sanctuary is open from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. all days except Mondays. Entry is 800 yen.
Tokyo Sealife Aquarium: This aquarium is one of the best in Tokyo. The entrance is through a glass dome, then down an escalator that leads to the actual aquarium. Among the large number of fish at the aquarium are the large tunas, hammerhead sharks, sugeonfishes, angelfishes, crabs, anemones, morays, and many more from all the seven seas of the world. In all, there are about 40,000 fish of 530 different varieties. Penguin and other seabird shows are also available to entertain visitors. The Aquarium is open from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. all days except Wednesdays. Entry is 700 yen.
Diamond and Flowers Ferris Wheel: The Diamond and Flowers Ferris Wheel is the most prominent feature of Kasai Rinkai Park. It is 117 meters tall (the second largest in Japan) and is so beautifully lit that when it goes round, it looks like a diamond or a flower – hence the name. When at the top of the wheel, the views of the surroundings are beautiful. The Tokyo Bay, Disney Resort, and on clear days Mt. Fuji can all be seen. Visitors may ride the wheel from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and admission is 700 yen.
